This Is Wheelchair Rugby

For many, sport is more than the game, it is LIFE! Across the country, #wheelchairrugby has grown from 7 to 22 teams since the London 2012 Paralympic Games. The benefits are far reaching for participants, namely positive impacts on physical and mental health. However, the future of the sport is in jeopardy with the loss of funding from UK Sport. To raise funds for the Paralympic team, Mike Brown of Harlequins Rugby Union & England Rugby has helped launch a campaign with Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby (GBWR) to raise £3 million. Join us in supporting #saveGBWR and the future of this incredible sport! Special thanks to the Ospreys Wheelchair Rugby Club and Simon Huntley in the making of this video!

Wheelchair Rugby Making An Impact

As one of the only full-contact disability sports, it is little wonder wheelchair rugby, aka ‘murderball’ was one of the biggest hits of the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

The sport is open to both men and women, and is one of the only games which allows them to compete on the same team. Learn how one up-and-coming athlete found her love for the game through the Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby Youth Development Programme.

All it took to become hooked on the sport was one disability sports awareness session!

Made to Measure Dance Wheelchair

RMA Sport is taking centre stage with wheelchairs made for dancing. The design is a collaboration with Gary Lyness and Paula Moulton, the UK’s top wheelchair dance couple.. Their expertise and direction during the process have resulted in a great partnership and foundation for us to expand our sports range into the realms of dance.

RMA SPORT Partners with the TENNIS FOUNDATION

RMA Sport together with the Tennis Foundation has created a wheelchair design that adapts as the athlete develops. Available in both youth and adult sizes, the steel frame supports an adjustable foot plate, backrest and anti-tip wheel.

Additionally, 24″ quick-release rear wheels come with the youth chair, while 25″ wheels come with the adult sizes. The design is adaptable and cost-effective, making wheelchair tennis more accessible.

There are two classifications for the chair, each with two sizes and distinguishable by colour. The seat widths for the youth sizes are 12″ and 14″ while the adult sizes fit widths of 15″ and 17″.

Both the youth and adult sizes can hold up to 15 stone, or 95 kilograms.
